A Future. Not A Past.

Each month in the State of Georgia, more than 400 children are prostituted, leading to a range of physical and psychological problems that often follow the victim for years.

“A Future. Not A Past.” was begun in Georgia with help from the Harold and Kayrita Family Foundation.

Later this year, it will begin expanding to other states.

Haitian Amputee Coalition

On January 12, a devastating earthquake left tens of thousands of Haitians with injuries that required one or more limbs to be amputated.

Working with a group of coalition partners, the Harold and Kayrita Family Foundation are bringing help, hope and healing to Haitian amputees.

Our goal: to provide a prosthesis to every Haitian who needs one.

Feminization of Poverty Despite gains in civil rights for women, more than three in ten female heads of household live below the poverty line.

Our grantee, Women’s Funding Network, is actively demonstrating that helping these women move out of poverty is the most effective way to boost the economic security of all American families. By harnessing the voice and power of women’s foundations, they are improving lives.

Making TransitionZ Our grantee–CHRIS Kids–helps teenagers make the transition from foster care and other challenging situations into self-sufficient adulthood through a program called “TransitionZ.”

Their mission: to heal children, strengthen families and build community around the core values of Creativity, Honor, Respect, Integrity and Safety (CHRIS).

Prostitution on Internet In covertly questioning men who responded to Internet ads soliciting sex with young females, 47 percent of the callers wanted to continue with the “transaction,” despite three warnings about the girl’s age.

Terrible Odds The next time you are walking down a crowded street, note the next three women you pass.

Odds are, one of them has or will be beaten, coerced into sex or abused in her lifetime.

We believe, this terrible statistic is simply unacceptable, and we’re committed to help non-profits who are working to do something about it.

Deadlier Than AIDS Picture a killer deadlier than AIDS. You’ve just imagined MRSA.

As a survivor of MRSA, Harold Anderson understands the critical importance of this issue and how it can affect an individual’s life.

The Foundation has funded research and educational efforts that can help reduce the number of MRSA infections and help fight this deadly scourge.

Hope for Haiti Following the January, 2010 earthquake a young woman named Verna lost her leg.

Today, she’s not only walking, she recently joined in an impromptu soccer match.

Now, you can join the Haitian Amputee Coalition in our goal of putting a prosthetic limb on every Haitian who needs one.

Saving Georgia’s Children On a busy weekend night in Georgia, as many as 129 children will be prostituted.

With a firm belief that our children deserve better, we helped form “A Future. Not A Past.” to help put an end to this shameful fact.

Spearheaded by the Juvenile Justice Fund, this program has made great strides and will now roll out nationally.

Stop A Killer For the first time since the development of sulpha drugs in the 1930′s, modern medicine may soon be unable to defeat certain infections.

We’ve worked with the Mayo Clinic to help find solutions that can stop deadly “super bugs” like MRSA.

But the first line of defense can be something as simple as a thorough hand-washing.

Wounded Warriors More of America’s soldiers are surviving traumatic battlefield injuries.

But this good news means an increasing number of veterans must learn to cope with the loss of a limb.

Challenge America, launched by Amy Grant and Vince Gill, is helping our wounded warriors lead fuller more productive lives. Join them in this worthy cause.

The Prostitution of Children If you think the prostitution of children is a third-world problem–think again.

Every day in the U.S., thousands of children are sexually exploited. Worse still, the abuse begins at home for three-quarters of these children.

Through grants to A Future. Not A Past. and by working with other parnters, we’re working hard to tackle this shameful fact.
